Special economic zone
The special economic zone covering the area of 558,7 ha and is managed by Kraków Technology Park (KTP). Situated in Małopolskie and Podkarpackie administrative regions (voivodeships), where public aid from the title of investing within special economic zones is highest in Poland. Kraków special economic zone consists of 23 subzones situated in 21 municipalities, where investors are welcome to make use of greenfield areas as well as office space for rent.
The Zone operates on the power of the Act on special economic zones, and the Regulation of the Council of Ministers, and will carry on in this form until the end of 2020.
The special economic zone is designed for all businesses from the traditional industry sector with the exception of products that require licensing by the state, namely alcohol, tobacco products, and steel production. The permits to operate in the zone are also available for certain firms from the services sector. Their number includes services in ICT, R & D, natural sciences, engineering sciences, bookkeeping and control/audit of books, accounting (with the exclusion of tax declarations), technical research and analyses, and telephone care centres.
A permit to operate in the special economic zone may be acquired by any firm, irrespective of the size and country of origin. Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) receive higher level of public aid.
So far, Kraków Technology Park has issued 101 permits to operate in the zone. The number of businesses present in the special economic zone includes both small and medium-size enterprises, including Car Technology and Unipress, and the large and well-known corporations, including Comarch, RP Donnelly, Motorola, Shell, and MAN Trucks.
The zone boasts building 9309 new jobs, and the total investment outlay of PLN 1.7 billion.
